Through hard work and a terrific dedicated team, Larry's has grown into the largest independently owned shoe retailer in the region. Pedorthic Division

Q: What is a Certified Pedorthist?
A: A certified Pedorthist, or C.Ped is a specialist in using footwear - which includes shoes, shoe modifications, foot orthoses and other pedorthic devices - to solve problems in or related to the foot and lower limb. When a foot requires medical attention, footwear becomes a factor in the patient's treatment, recovery or rehabilitation. It's a team approach: while the doctor treats your foot, the C.Ped addresses your footwear needs.

Q: I don't need a doctor, but my feet sometimes bother me, can a Certified Pedorthist help?
A: Yes. Many people can benefit from Pedorthic devices or footwear modifications to make their shoes more comfortable. But keep in mind that if you have medical condition related to your feet, you will need a footwear prescription before the Certified Pedorthist can help you.

Helping People with Special Needs

Since being founded in 1969, Larry's Comfort Shoes & Pedorthic Services, Inc. has evolved from a shoe repair business to what it is today - orthopedic services and comfort shoe retail operation. Founder and President Larry R. Reed began his career in his family's shoe repair business in the Central Valley. Seeing a need to assist those with special needs, Larry built his business accordingly.

Larry's Comfort Shoes & Pedorthic Services is a fully credited facility by the Board for Certification in Pedorthics and member of the Pedorthic Footwear Association. Larry's Pedorthic division specializes in the manufacturing of custom-made footwear and orthotics for those with special needs so that they can fit feet of any size or shape.

Board Certified Pedorthist Steven Zuniga joined Larry's in 1998 as an Orthopedic Technician. Like Larry, the shoe business is in Steven's blood as well. Steven began working in his father's shoe repair shop when he was about nine years old and this experience made him excel as a Pedorthist, as he has the special hand skills of a craftsman to create a perfect shoe for his customers.

Larry's Comfort Shoes treats thousands of patients every year. Many cases are those with pronation, or flat feet or those with abnormal foot sizes, foot swelling, post foot surgery situations, plantar fasciitis, birth defects such as club feet or syndactylism (condition of having webbed toes), metarsalgia, foot drops, hammer toes, charcot foot, advanced rheumatoid arthritis, bunions and trauma situations. The main purpose of a Pedorthist is to slow down the progression of whatever is happening and to aid in eliminating pain.

All the orthotics and custom footwear are manufactured on site so patients get the personal touch all the way from the initial evaluation to when they put on their custom made footwear.
The cases that touch Larry and Steven the most are the children. Larry's sees patients from the nearby Shriner's Hospital for Children and Larry's has donated some of that care. "Larry's has been very accommodating to the Shriner's Hospital," says JR Brandt who manages the hospital's prosthetics and orthotics department. "They bend over backwards to make sure the kids are taken care of."

The skills Larry and Steven have learned are being passed onto additional Pedorthists, including Larry's son Shannon, a fourth generation shoe craftsman, in an effort to provide even more service to the customers of Larry's Comfort Shoes and Pedorthic Services.
